Canon MAXIFY MB5150 – Systematically Not recognized as Scanner Device / No Connection on Windows 11 – or Scanning is ‘So Super Slow’

Posted on 05/04/202405/04/2024 by vacama

Really very nice printer-scanner overall. A bit big for a home user, i.e. a quite a bit bigger and heavier than other comparable printer-scanners, but rather rug-weight and with decent result for printing and scanning. And the ink cartridges seem to hold much longer than for ‘comparable’ printer-scanners.

Only big challenge seems to be the Canon scan software. Found the ‘Canon IJ Scan Utility’ software from Canon on the Internet, yet very regularly run into the problem that

  • either the printer/scanner is not recognized at all / error message ‘no connection’ (after having received a ‘success’ message’ at the end of an initial scan soft install procedure)
  • or the scanning process just stops / cancels after a couple of mins,
  • or the scan process takes literally ‘ages’ to complete…

Running Windows 11 on a Dell tower PC.

Also tried other scan software as alternatives, like ‘Windows Scanner’ and open source ‘NAPS’. However, while both softs seem to recognize the scanner, the scanning process as such is really awfully slow….

If anyone has any idea… 😁 – just leave a comment.

Thanks a lot in advance!
